Getting Holland to switch off their phones
Less distractions during our National Commemoration
Together with art director Fabian Sapthu, I initiated 2BelminutenStilte, a campaign to get everyone in Holland to switch off their phones for two minutes on our National Remembrance Day (May 4th). We asked KPN, Vodafone and T-Mobile to help us extend this invitation to everyone. They did.
Together with the support of the National Committee 4 & 5 Mei we noodled and fiddled until we agreed upon a campaign message and rollout everyone could support. A highly entertaining and rewarding process.

The results
In one day, we got our message across on all major national news outlets (ANP, NOS and RTL News), various newspapers (NRC, Volkskrant, Trouw, Parool) and multiple national radio stations (3FM, NOS, Radio 1, radio 2, 538). We were featured on three national talkshows and Jeugdjournaal (bucketlist item, right there). Various national media outlets ran polls with astonishingly positive results. We had three simultaneously trending topics. Most importantly, we got 150.000 people to switch off their phones and commemorate with less distractions.
Let’s see what we can come up with next year.

at least seven radio stations joined in on our initiative

Apart from DWDD, we got RTL Late Night and Koffietijd mentioning our initiative
polls with pretty nice results
